Howdy to all the new folks who have made it here from the friending meme, and howdy to everyone else who might be reading. Given the new people and the fact that the last one was like two years ago, it seems like a good time to do this again.

What you see here before you is an open thread, so comment with absolutely anything your heart desires. This is open to non-subscribers too. Have fun!

Meanwhile, we here in the Land of Blue Grass are enjoying day three of an arctic blast. Polar vortex? Whatever; it's really effing cold. I am about 95% certain that I will never be warm again, and my poor smooth-coated Jack Russell, who loathes cold weather and nopes out hard when you try to take her out for more time than it takes to do her business, is totally wild from multiple days cooped up indoors and driving me crazy. Good times, good times. The snow I don't mind, but I would pay cash money to see a high temperature greater than 19* sometime this week. Go home, Snow Miser, you're drunk.

I guess I shouldn't keep complaining about the frigid temps here, I think it was a balmy 26 or so today!

Temperatures are supposed to get back to something like normal (40s, which seems practically tropical by comparison) here by Monday. These wild swings happen here every year, but I've never really developed a taste for them.

Oh man! I hope it gets warmer for you soon. We're supposed to get above freezing tomorrow, but it's 5F right now. whee!

Fun times! I hope you don't have too many horse chores to do, because haying and mucking is always so miserable in this kind of weather. Oh, and breaking ice on water buckets. That's always a good time.

There are times I feel a wee bit guilty/lazy to have my horse on full-care board rather than doing at least part of the work myself like I did while I was in school, but this is 100% not one of them!

I would love some snow but all I'm getting is fog! I doubt my Jack Russells would enjoy it either though- they're far too close to the ground!

I'll trade your fog for my snow! I usually don't mind it a bit, but I just came home from Arizona where it's 70* and sunny and the grass is green.

Poor little JRTs - it's hard being a huge dog in a small body! Every winter we get at least one snowfall that's deeper than my Izzy is tall, and that's no fun for ANYBODY.

Breaking ice sucks. Luckily I have discovered heated water buckets for the dogs, and a tank heater for the pasture. I also have heated waterers in the stalls. These usually work. Usually. lol Or at least when one isn't another usually is.

100% care is definitely cool. Would be be guilty about that.

Heated water buckets and troughs are BRILLIANT. I grew up in southern AZ and spent the first part of my adult life in California so the need for them had never even occurred to me until I spent three years living in the High Sierra and got to break the ice on the water trough every single time I turned my mare out during the winter. :)

The barn I board at now has heated troughs in the paddocks, but the buckets in the barn aren't. Definitely grateful to the barn girls for dealing with that - I know just how un-fun frozen buckets are!!

They had buckets at the last place I boarded before I moved on my own. Luckily, it was full care, so I didn't have to deal with it because I'm sure that sucks.

I was too stupid to get the tank heater for the first few years, and had to break ice every day. Sucked.
